Relationship Between the Degree of Stress, Coping Methods, and the Burn-out states in Nursing Job


Abstract
This study was designed to analyze stress, coping methods, and burn out among nurses working ii hospitals.
The data for this study were obtained from 141 nurses working in 2 hospitals in Mok Po and 1 hospital in Kwang Zu city that the equal situation of level from June 25 to July 10, 1987.
The results were as follow;
1. The mean of relationship between stress level and stressors were 1.74 and make a mistake in work to stressors was most higher.
2. There was significant difference on stress levels in relationship with unmarried nurses group and with lower education background group by steps. (P< .01). They showed higher stress level. In this aspect, the 1 hypothesis partially accepted.
3. There was significant difference on bum-out levels in relationship with young age group by steps, with unmarried nurses group, with lower educational background group by steps, with Buddhist, and with working careers of 1-5 years. (P < .01, P < .05).
They showed higher burn out level.
In this aspect, the 1 hypothesis partially accepted.
4. The more coping methods were used in the nurses more perceived stress (P < .0 1). In this aspect, the 2 hypothesis partially accepted.
5. There was significant difference on bum-out levels in relationship with the group using more short-term methods and the group using less long-term methods (P< .01). They showed higher burn out level.
In this aspect, the 3 hypothesis partially accepted.
